Constipation is a very
common digestive problem that affects people of all ages. Earlier, a study
found that nearly 22% of the adult population in India suffered from this
disease; however, people are often reluctant to talk about their stool.
With
constipation, the stools are infrequent, the stools are hard and it is
difficult to pass them. Constipation is often the result of poor diet and lack
of physical activity, although it can be caused by many factors, such as aging
and certain medications or diseases.
Lifestyle changes can help relieve most
cases of constipation and improve your digestive health. In addition to
changing your lifestyle, you can use Ayurvedic medicines to treat this
condition.
Ayurvedic home remedies
will not only help you get relief from this common problem but will also clean
the digestive tract in a natural way.
According to Ayurveda, undigested foods
and hidden or occult stools can slowly accumulate in the stomach and large
intestine, altering the Vata dosha - which is supposed to control basic bodily
functions.
This, in turn, can cause obstruction of the digestive tract and, as
a result, the body will not be able to clear a path for proper intestinal
transit, which would result in constipation.
Here are some ayurvedic
homes remedies that can help relieve constipation and keep you regularly
Triphala:
Triphala is composed of
three ingredients: Amla (Indian gooseberry or Emblica Officinalis), Behada
(Bibhitaki or Terminalia bellirica) and Harada (Haritaki or Terminalia
Chebula).
This Ayurvedic formulation also acts as a tonic and laxative.
Triphala is considered one of the best ayurvedic remedies for treating
digestive problems, including constipation. It can effectively help with
internal cleansing and detoxification.
Just infuse ½ to 1
teaspoon in a cup of water, preferably warm, for about 5 to 10 minutes and
drink it. People who do not like the taste can take 2 capsules with hot water a
day. Triphala is generally recommended to take between meals on an empty
stomach, or at sunrise and just before going to bed.
Flaxseed:
An excellent source of
dietary fiber, omega-3 fatty acids, and essential antioxidants, flaxseed can
help stool pass easily through the digestive tract, making it a powerful
natural remedy for constipation.
To use flaxseed in
constipation, take about 1 tablespoon of these super seeds and boil it in a cup
of water for 2 to 3 minutes, let it cool slightly, then drink some water. You
can also eat the seeds. Do this two to three times a day.
Castor oil:
Castor oil is a popular
natural remedy that acts as a laxative, relieves constipation and promotes
regular bowel movements. For constipation, it is recommended to take 1-2
tablespoons of castor oil on an empty stomach, preferably at bedtime until
relief.
